"I come to you with only my empty hands.  I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor, should it be a matter of life and death, or right or wrong; then here are my weapons my empty hands."

School of
Modern Refined Warriors

The word warrior brings up different visions for people. A lot of which depends on your age, interests, and life experiences. To be honest, at first I didn’t want to use the word because its often overused and made cliché, I spent a lot of time looking for comparable words and came up empty. This really was the word I needed to use. In my mind, a warrior is someone who is willing to fight for their convictions and moral values - after they have spent serious time evaluating those beliefs. I’m not talking about the hot topic of the day on social media or whatever happens to be trendy. Deep seeded values exhibiting honor, respect, tradition, and value life. A warrior is willing to fight using whatever medium is necessary to protect these values. Today’s modern warrior might use written or spoken words (or conversely remain silent rather than spread mistruths), actions, and occasionally justified violence in support of these causes. A modern refined warrior will always choose to de-escalate a situation if possible (yes, this is an important part of my curriculum), violence will always be a last resort. The modern refined warrior is emotionally, mentally, and physically fit. Are they the biggest, fastest, or smartest? Not necessarily, but they will be the best in all those areas that they are capable of. It is their heart, will, and conviction that will see them emerge victorious in whatever they encounter.

This is my vision for the evolution of CODA. To be able to help our students become modern refined warriors who are prepared to stand confidently and tackle any problem that is thrown at them.  I am super excited about this evolution, it’s been years in the making and comes at a critical time for our constantly changing world. I hope you’ll come along for the ride with me, we are doing things no other school is!

See you in the Dojo
